During the outfitter guide training, you will learn the practical and technical skills required to be an outfitter guide.

  • Wildlife habits, habitat, seasonal patterns, identification
  • Back country living and wilderness survival skill
  • Safety protocols
  • All government regulations- knowledge which is requisite for employment
  • Bear and cougar safety
  • Guest relations and leadership skills
  • Running your own outfitting business

Many of the trips you lead may take place as part of horse-based pack trip, so we also train you in the following skills: horse handling, shoeing, packing, horse care, camp preparation, wilderness skills and operational procedures.

The first half of the guide training takes place at a ranch, where theoretical and practical training is provided in a controlled environment. The second half of the guide school is spent in the high alpine where you apply your newly learned skills in the “real world” of outfitter guiding. Outfitter Guide Training  Outfitter Guide Training

As with all of our guide schools, learning and training is hands on. Our instructor-to-student ratio is among the highest in the industry, ensuring that you will get the personal training you need. At the conclusion of your guide school and an optional apprenticeship, you will be equipped with everything you need to be a successful outfitter guide.
